A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

JOB GOAL
To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and effecient place in which to learn, play and grow.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Substitute (works on an on-call basis)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assume responsibility for closing the building each day and for determining that all doors and windows are secured and all lights (except those left on for safety reasons) are turned off Keeps buildings and premises, including sidewalk, driveways, and play areas (if elementary) neat and clean at all times Ability to handle mechanical functions of the building Shovels, plows, and/or sands walks, driveways, parking areas and steps as necessary Sweeps classrooms daily and dusts furniture Scrubs and disinfects toilet floors daily, cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation Cleans all chalkboards at least once a week Moves furniture and equipment within buildings as required for various activities as directed by the principal Makes such minor building repairs as he/she is capable of Reports major repairs needed promptly to the building principal Keeps the ground free of rubbish Reports immediately to the building principal any damage to school property Remains on the school premises during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance required by the principal Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
(Intellectual, Sensory) : Position will occasionally require lifting 60 pounds or more Self-directed - can organize own time and tasks Ability to read and follow directions on cleaning supplies
