The Porter/Helper is responsible for safely collecting and handling trash, keeping the truck and work area clean, and assisting with daily route operations. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Assist the trash truck driver with daily waste collection routes. Collect and load trash, garbage, and other approved waste materials into the truck. Walk or ride along designated routes while safely performing collection duties. Lift, carry, push, and pull trash containers and waste materials. Return trash containers to their proper location after collection. Inspect collection areas for potential safety hazards and report issues to the driver or supervisor. Keep the truck, equipment, and surrounding work areas clean and orderly. Assist with basic cleaning and daily upkeep of the trash truck and collection equipment. Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and waste-handling requirements. Use proper lifting techniques and personal protective equipment (PPE). Communicate with the driver and other crew members throughout the route. Provide courteous and professional service to customers when interacting with the public. Report damaged containers, spills, unsafe conditions, or unusual materials to management. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Qualifications Previous experience in waste collection, sanitation, construction, landscaping, warehouse work, or other physically demanding work is preferred but not required. Must be dependable, punctual, and willing to work as part of a team. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Ability to follow directions and safety procedures. Good communication and teamwork skills. Must maintain a professional and positive attitude. No prior waste-management experience required; training may be provided. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry heavy trash containers and materials. Ability to repeatedly bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, and lift throughout the workday. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to climb on and off the truck safely when required. Ability to work in hot, cold, wet, dusty, and other outdoor conditions. Must be able to perform the essential physical duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Work Environment This position is primarily outdoors and involves exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, dirt, noise, traffic, and waste materials. Employees are expected to follow all safety requirements and use appropriate PPE while performing their duties. Schedule Full-time position Early morning starts may be required. Monday-Friday schedule, with weekends as needed based on route requirements. Overtime available.
