What they do
A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

- Operational Services Unit (CSEA) Salary Range From $34312 to $42565 Annually Employment Type Full-Time Appointment Type Permanent Jurisdictional Class Labor Class Travel Percentage 0% Workweek Variable Hours Per Week 40 Workday From 12 AM To 12 AM Flextime allowed?
- Working knowledge of the properties of various cleaning substances.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and simple written instructions in English
- Ability to stand, stoop, bend and stretch for long periods of time
- Ability to perform medium to heavy manual labor
- Ability to use various cleaning equipment and products
- Ability to climb ladders and scaffolds and shovel snow
- Ability to read, write and understand English
- Successful applicants must be good communicators, have a positive attitude, and be able to work productively as a team member Additional Comments Shifts available: Full time: 11pm-7am (Weekend shifts may be necessary as well as Monday holidays with the exception of Christmas and New Year's Day should they fall on a Monday; pass days vary) Full time: 4am-12:30pm, Monday-Friday Full time (evenings): 5pm-1am, Monday-Friday Part-time (weekends): 1st shift: Saturday, Sunday & Monday (including Monday holidays with the exception of Christmas and New Year's Day should they fall on a Monday) Part-time (day shift): Monday•Friday 10am•2:30pm (+•30 min depending on building assignment) Upon hire, a 52-week probationary period must be served.
