Job Description

Overview Maintenance Custodian Samaritan Daytop Village is a leading human services organization in New York State serving over 38,000 New Yorkers annually across more than 60 locations through Transitional Housing, Community Based Services, and Residential and Outpatient programs. First Steps Intensive Crisis Stabilization Center (ICSC), operated by Samaritan Daytop Village in Rockland County, is a 24/7 program dually licensed by OMH and OASAS to provide rapid, short-term support for children ages 5+ and adults in mental health or substance use crisis. Our multidisciplinary team utilizes a trauma-informed, harm-reduction framework to stabilize individuals and connect them with long-term care while avoiding unnecessary emergency room visits. We are seeking a Maintenance Custodian to ensure the facility remains clean, safe, and in good repair for all clients and staff. This role combines daily custodial duties, such as floor care and disinfecting, with light maintenance tasks and minor building repairs. You will be responsible for maintaining high standards of sanitation while proactively identifying and addressing small maintenance needs as they arise. This position is a great fit for a reliable individual who takes pride in their work and is comfortable using both cleaning machinery and basic hand tools to support a welcoming environment. Responsibilities Maintains a clean and orderly environment throughout the facility, including common areas, offices, and clinical spaces such as exam rooms Performs detailed floor care such as sweeping, mopping, and scrubbing using side-by-side stripping and high-speed buffing machines Executes light maintenance tasks and minor repairs, such as changing door locks, replacing light bulbs, or fixing basic fixtures Cleans and disinfects high-touch surfaces and bathrooms daily in accordance with hygiene and sanitation protocols Manages waste removal by collecting and disposing of trash and debris from both indoor and outdoor areas Ensures safe facility access by clearing snow and ice from the building exterior and entrances as needed Operates and maintains cleaning equipment and hand tools, ensuring they are kept in good working condition Follows all safety guidelines, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and approved cleaning agents Responds promptly to maintenance emergencies or facility issues, such as leaks or spills, to prevent safety hazards Uses basic computer skills to submit maintenance reports, track supplies, or communicate with supervisors Qualifications At least six (6) months of experience in custodial or maintenance work within a professional facility, such as a medical center, office building, or school Practical experience and ability to performing light maintenance and minor building repairs using basic hand tools Familiarity with professional cleaning procedures, sanitation methods, and high-standard floor care Knowledge of operating floor stripping and buffing machines to maintain vinyl and hard surfaces Ability to follow safety protocols for chemical handling and an understanding of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) Experience with or willingness to perform outdoor upkeep, including manual snow and ice removal Flexibility to respond to facility emergencies, such as leaks or minor repair needs, as they arise Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with staff and supervisors Commitment to treating all individuals with dignity and respect, maintaining a professional and compassionate presence around clients in crisis Basic computer skills for reporting, supply tracking, and receiving facility updates Additional Information This is a full-time non-exempt role with an hourly rate of $21.97
