What they do
A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description
The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The New York City Police Department strives to foster a safe and fair city through the strategic deployment of resources, focusing on both crime prevention and addressing quality-of-life concerns while building lasting community relationships. The Facilities Management Division plays a critical role in keeping Department facilities operating safely for staff and visitors as it oversees the upkeep and maintenance for over 250 Department Facilities Citywide. FMD manages multiple facility renovations that support Department initiatives and unit relocations and is comprised of uniform, civilian, trades, professional and administrative staff. The Facilities Management Division is looking to hire motivated City Custodial Assistants whose responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- sweep and mop office floors, corridors, lobbies and other assigned floor areas
- cleans wash basins and other toilet room facilities
- replenishes bathroom supplies
- empty waste baskets and disposes of trash
- vacuums rugs and carpets
- dusts/cleans blinds and walls
- polishes furniture and metal
- cleans mirrors and glass
- sweeps and remove snow from sidewalks
- other duties as assigned.
