Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description:
The Facilities Department of Nassau Community College (NCC) is seeking a Custodial Worker I to perform routine cleaning and manual work in the custodial care and simple maintenance tasks throughout the campus. Under general supervision, the duties are routine and the work is reviewed for quality, accuracy and completeness. In addition, the Custodial Worker I will: Sweep, mop, wax and polish floors, halls and work areas. Dust and clean furniture, walls, windows and equipment. Replace light bulbs and make routine maintenance repairs to buildings and equipment. Move furniture and equipment. Shovel snow and assist in keeping outside premises orderly.
Requirements:
The Custodial Worker I should have the: Ability to learn the methods and equipment used in custodial activities. Ability to follow oral instructions. Sufficient physical strength to perform strenuous custodial activities. Minimum qualifications include completion of fourth grade education AND six (6) months of work experience.
Additional Information:
The Custodial Worker I position is a Grade 4, non-competitive Civil Service title. The starting salary is $34,961 per year. After one (1) year, salary will increase to $44,425. Benefits include NYS retirement plan, health, dental, optical insurance, vacation, sick, and personal leave. Candidate must be a current resident of Nassau County for at least one (1) year.
