A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description
Cleaner
The Livonia Central School District is seeking a dependable and hardworking individual to join our Buildings and Grounds team as a full-time Cleaner.
Position Details
Full-time, 12-month position
Eight hours per day, 40 hours per week
Starting wage: $17.00 per hour
Additional differential for second- and third-shift assignments in accordance with the Livonia School Related Professionals contract
Primarily an evening shift during the school year
Day-shift schedule during the summer months
Must be available to work occasional nights and weekends during the school year
Must be flexible regarding scheduling on staff training days, conference days and other nontraditional school days

Job Qualifications
Typical Duties
Clean and maintain classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, cafeterias, gymnasiums and other District facilities
Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub and refinish floors
Clean and sanitize restrooms, fixtures and frequently touched surfaces
Empty waste and recycling containers
Dust and clean furniture, windows, walls and other surfaces
Set up and break down rooms for meetings, programs, athletic events and other activities
Restock custodial and restroom supplies
Assist with snow removal, grounds work and other seasonal responsibilities as assigned
Secure assigned areas and report safety, maintenance or security concerns
Properly use and maintain cleaning equipment and supplies
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities or designee
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to perform routine cleaning and custodial work
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Dependable attendance and punctuality
Ability to interact professionally with students, staff and members of the public
Ability to safely use cleaning chemicals, tools and custodial equipment
Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds
Must be able to climb and work from ladders
Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, push and pull for extended periods
Must be available for the required work schedule, including occasional nights and weekends
Previous commercial, institutional or school cleaning experience is preferred but not required
Civil Service Requirements
Appointment is subject to Livingston County Civil Service requirements. The successful candidate must meet all applicable Civil Service qualifications and complete all required fingerprinting and background-clearance procedures.
