POSTION SUMMARY
: The Day Porter is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, appearance, and functionality of the building's common areas throughout the day. This is a highly visible, tenant-facing role requiring professionalism, responsiveness, and attention to detail during occupied business hours. Upon arrival each day, the porter checks in with building management before beginning their scheduled rounds. Daily Responsibilities Lobby & Entrance Maintain entry glass, door hardware, and all lobby surfaces. Sweep, mop, vacuum and spot clean lobby floors; remove liter from entrance and surrounding sidewalks. Wipe down signage, furniture and reception desk. Deploy rain mats inclement weather and remove when dry. Empty reception desk trash receptables as needed. Elevators Vacuum, spot clean, polish interior cab surfaces. Clean doors, call buttons, and inspect tracks and ceilings. Restrooms (at minimum twice per day and three times per day on high-traffic floors) Sanitize fixtures, mop, disinfect floors, mirrors, dispensers, partitions. Restock paper towels, toilet paper, toilet seat covers, soap and hand sanitizer. Report maintenance issues (i.e. soap dispensers, automated toilet flushing systems etc.). to management promptly. Common Areas, Corridors & Stairwells Sweep stairs and landings, spot clean doors, handrails & walls. Maintain cleanliness of all corridors and common hallways throughout the day. Wipe down light switch plates, door handles, and push plates regularly. Keep fire stairwells clear of debris; report any safety concerns. Vacant Suites Dust, vacuum and/ or sweep, mop hard floors and clean glass. Wipe light switches and reposition furniture as needed. Wipe blinds and prime P-traps (weekly basis only). Exterior & Roof Police sidewalks for litter/ graffiti; hose down weekly. Inspect & clear roof drains (as needed). Assist with snow or ice removal at entryways as directed (salt/sand application). Scheduled Reoccurring Responsibilities Monthly Clean ceiling vents and high corners. Detail vacuum vacancies and corridors. Wet mop stairwells and vacancies. Quarterly Address hard-to- reach surfaces and areas missed by routine dusting. Inspect and clean door closures and overhead light fixtures. As-Needed Responsibilities Respond to spill cleanups and emergency cleaning requests promptly. Place wet floor signs and safety cones when mopping or during inclement weather. Key Requirements A key function of this role is serving as an extra set of eyes for building management. The porter is expected to proactively identify and report: Burned-out lights and lighting issues Maintenance needs or equipment malfunctions Graffiti or vandalism Pest sightings Safety hazards or damaged infrastructure Unsecured doors or windows Porters should maintain a daily activity log documenting tasks completed and communicate regularly with the building manager or superintendent regarding any tenant complaints or building concerns. Must be presentable and in owner provided uniform at all times during shift. Courteous, professional, and responsive with tenants and visitors. Ability to operate standard cleaning equipment (mops, floor machines, vacuums). Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand/walk for extended periods. Prior commercial building experience preferred. Strong communication skills; able to relay building concerns to management clearly.
