Job Description

Job Summary The Custodial Team Lead plays a hands-on role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position works alongside the custodial team completing assigned cleaning hours while also providing day-to-day support and oversight to ensure quality standards are consistently met. The Team Lead does not manage direct reports or handle formal performance or disciplinary conversations but serves as a go-to resource for guidance, quality checks, and operational support. Through attention to detail, collaboration, and a strong work ethic, the Custodial Team Lead helps ensure the school facilities support a positive and healthy learning environment. Key Responsibilities Custodial Duties Perform daily cleaning tasks during assigned hours, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and trash removal in classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and common areas. Maintain floors through routine care such as buffing, stripping, waxing, and other procedures to meet appearance and safety standards. Clean and sanitize restrooms and ensure they are properly stocked with necessary supplies. Assist with special cleaning projects, such as deep cleaning after events or during school breaks. Team Lead Responsibilities Conduct final walkthroughs ("final walks") of assigned areas to confirm cleanliness and quality standards are met. Provide real-time coaching and guidance to team members when cleaning issues or missed details are observed. Support daily coverage needs by assisting with coverage when team members are absent or when workload needs require flexibility. Communicate observed facility needs, supply issues, or recurring concerns to the appropriate supervisor. Model professionalism, safe work practices, and attention to detail while working alongside the team. Facility & Safety Support Identify and report maintenance needs or safety concerns discovered during daily work. Assist with light maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs or minor fixture adjustments, as needed. Safely operate and care for custodial equipment and ensure proper use and storage of cleaning chemicals in accordance with guidelines. Qualifications & Skills Previous janitorial or custodial experience preferred; school or institutional cleaning experience is a plus. Working knowledge of cleaning methods, including floor care and use of custodial equipment. Ability to operate equipment such as floor buffers, scrubbers, vacuums, and other cleaning tools safely and effectively. Strong attention to detail and ability to recognize quality issues in completed work. Team-oriented mindset with the ability to coach and support peers in a positive, respectful manner. Good communication skills and a willingness to step in where needed to support daily operations. Physical ability to perform job duties, including standing for extended periods, lifting, bending, and occasional ladder use.
Pay:
$18.00 - $20.00 per hour
