A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description
Hourly pay: $19/hr 2nd shift hours available part-time hours available The Substitute Custodian will be responsible to provide students and staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and sanitary place in which to learn, play and develop. The Substitute Custodian is also responsible for cleaning and maintaining assigned building(s), equipment, furnishings and fixtures. Performs routine cleaning tasks including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, washing walls, doors and windows. Responsible for emptying trash. Performs minor repairs and preventative maintenance. Essential Functions of the Job Maintains and cares for assigned buildings and grounds, including cleaning, sanitizing and arranging buildings and grounds for each day's learning environment. Assumes responsibility for the effective performance of cleaning and maintenance duties, including sweeping, moping, vacuuming, scrubbing floors, washing etc. Performs minor repairs and preventative maintenance, including cleaning, changing light luminaries regularly, reporting damage to school property and assisting in evaluating damage to buildings and grounds. Responsible for moving and rearranging furniture, cabinets and equipment. Takes an active part in maintaining proper security procedures as developed by the building principal and district. Open/close the building(s), ensuring the security system is engaged or disengaged; Insure security system and fire alarm systems are working; Challenge unidentified strangers Assist principal and staff in maintaining energy conservation practices by keeping doors and windows closed during proper season Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA) Some knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in custodial work. Understanding of safety and security requirements. Attention to detail. Adaptable to change. Ability to follow oral or written instructions and work well independently. Ability to interact and communicate well with students, staff, parents and community members. Ability to use basic cleaning tools and floor cleaning equipment. Qualifications/Professional Credentials High school diploma or equivalent is required 1 - 3 years of experience in similar field required
