Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Cleans and sanitizes assigned areas, including such duties as mopping, dusting, and trash removal. May complete duties related to window washing, meeting set up, pool cleaning, snow removal, grounds keeping, and other related responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Locker Rooms (Men's, Boys', Women's, and Girls')
  • Clean and disinfect showers (walls and floors), sinks, toilets, countertops, fixtures, mirrors, glass surfaces, steam rooms, and saunas.
  • Dust and clean locker interiors, exteriors, and tops.
  • Dust and clean vents; vacuum carpets where applicable.
  • Scrub and clean floors using mechanical scrubbers as required.
  • Empty and replace trash receptacles.
  • Check, restock, and maintain all soap, paper towel, and toilet paper dispensers. Studios (A & B)
  • Dust, sweep, and maintain studio floors.
  • Clean all mirrors thoroughly.
  • Wipe down and disinfect all fitness equipment, including stationary bikes. Restrooms
  • Clean, disinfect, sweep, and mop all single-use bathrooms on the first floor, second floor, and family changing rooms.
  • Clean vents, fixtures, mirrors, and floors.
  • Restock dispensers and empty trash daily. Childcare
  • Inspect and refill soap, paper towels, and toilet paper dispensers.
  • Clean sinks, floors, carpets, and daycare entrance areas as needed.
  • Maintain a hygienic and child-safe environment at all times. Common Areas & Entrances
  • Clean main entrances, including glass doors and surfaces.
  • Dust and sweep both lobby areas.
  • Wipe down chairs, tables, and high-touch surfaces.
  • Clean all interior hallway glass doors. Boardroom & Living Room
  • Dust and wipe tables and chairs in the boardroom and living room.
  • Vacuum and dust the boardroom.
  • Sweep, dry mop, and clean-living room floors, including areas behind the kitchen.
  • Remove trash from all receptacles. Kitchen Areas
  • Wipe down and clean all appliances, countertops, and surfaces.
  • Sweep and mop kitchen floors.
  • Remove and dispose of trash daily. Water Fountains
  • Clean and disinfect all water fountains thoroughly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous custodial, housekeeping, or facilities maintenance experience preferred.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and adhere to cleaning and safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of proper use of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and disinfecting techniques (training provided if needed).
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing time and priorities effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to cleanliness and sanitation standards.
  • Ability to interact professionally and respectfully with members, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach, including overhead
  • Frequently required to push, pull, lift, and carry objects such as cleaning equipment, tools, furniture, supplies, and trash
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted, and heavier items with assistance or equipment
  • Required to use hands and arms for repetitive motions including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, wiping, and operating equipment
  • Must be capable of climbing ladders or stairs and working at varying heights
  • Required to operate manual and powered tools and equipment, including vacuums, floor buffers, lawn equipment, and maintenance tools
  • Ability to work for extended periods of time in physically demanding conditions
  • Must tolerate exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, dirt, temperature variations, noise, and outdoor weather conditions
  • Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to respond quickly to maintenance or safety needs, including emergency situations
