A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Summary Join the Kutztown University Facilities team and help create a clean, safe, and welcoming campus environment for our students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Custodial Worker 1 positions play an important role in supporting daily campus life and maintaining the spaces where learning, work, and community happen. We are looking for a professional, punctual, and dependable team member who takes pride in their work, pays attention to detail, and helps maintain a clean and welcoming campus environment. The ability to follow instructions, communicate effectively, and work independently is important. This position, as an integral part of the Facilities team, supports the daily operations, comfort, and overall experience of the campus community. Employees in this role can gain valuable hands-on experience, build custodial and facilities related skills, and pursue opportunities for continued growth within the university. Experience with cleaning techniques, supplies, and custodial equipment is helpful but not required. As a member of the Facilities team, this position is designated as essential personnel. Open positions are available across multiple shifts.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to read and understand written materials Ability to follow oral and written instructions Ability to communicate effectively orally Ability to communicate effectively in writing Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships Minimum Qualifications No previous experience or training required. Preferred Qualifications Minimum of one year cleaning or manual labor experience Stable employment history—a minimum of one year with the same employer One year of work experience that includes cleaning in an institutional environment One year of work experience related to floor care including carpet cleaning, scrubbing/waxing, and stripping and waxing Supplemental Information Applications will be accepted throughout the 26-27 year, and this position will remain open to fill all Facilities & Housing Custodial Worker 1 positions that are open.
