Job Title:
Janitorial Worker / Forklift Operator Job Description This position is responsible for safely operating industrial forklifts to collect, transport, and dispose of trash and recyclable materials throughout a busy distribution facility. The role directly supports overall cleanliness, workflow efficiency, and a safe, well-organized working environment by combining material-handling duties with general janitorial and housekeeping tasks. Responsibilities Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment to collect and remove trash from production and operational areas. Transport waste, recyclables, and scrap materials to designated disposal or compaction locations in a timely and safe manner. Load, unload, and stage waste containers, bins, and pallets to support efficient waste handling and removal processes. Maintain cleanliness, organization, and clear access around waste collection zones and disposal areas. Perform daily inspections of forklifts and report any mechanical, safety, or operational issues immediately. Follow all safety procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and facility guidelines while performing all tasks. Assist with general housekeeping and janitorial duties as needed to maintain a clean and orderly facility. Communicate regularly with supervisors and production teams to coordinate timely waste removal and support uninterrupted operations. Complete basic documentation related to waste volumes, equipment checks, and disposal logs accurately and on schedule. Essential Skills Ability to safely operate industrial forklifts in a busy distribution or production environment. Experience performing janitorial duties, including cleaning and general labor tasks. Understanding of basic safety procedures, PPE use, and facility guidelines related to equipment operation and waste handling. Capability to complete simple documentation such as equipment checklists, waste volume records, and disposal logs. Strong communication skills to coordinate with supervisors and production teams about waste removal and housekeeping needs. Ability to maintain cleanliness and organization in designated work and waste collection areas. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a distribution center or similar industrial facility. Comfort working with material-handling equipment beyond forklifts, as needed. Willingness to cross-train and support both forklift operation and general housekeeping tasks. Attention to detail when inspecting equipment and recording waste and maintenance information. Initial training on the equipment takes place on the 1st shift to ensure you are fully prepared before working independently. The setting is active and fast-paced, requiring comfort with physical tasks, movement throughout the facility, and consistent adherence to safety and cleanliness standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mechanicsburg, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $18.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
