GENERAL FUNCTIONS

Under the general direction of the Property Manager, the Custodian supports the work of the Sunbury YMCA. The Sunbury Y intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined while also overseeing the maintenance and improvement of Sunbury Y facilities and its equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.

Assist in day to day custodial needs based on facility needs for the day. 2. Reports items that need repair. 3. Disposes of trash. 4. Performs preventative maintenance as needed. 5. Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or may violate the code of conduct. 6. Keep supplies organized, maintain and clean facility and care for equipment. 7. Must have the ability to use equipment and chemicals in prescribed manner, including ability to read labels, SDS information sheets, and instructions. 8. Perform operations of scrubbing, sweeping (broom and vacuum), mopping, dusting, etc. involved in the daily cleaning of the Sunbury Y by using hand and machine cleaning tools in:

• Restrooms/Locker Rooms
• Classrooms
• Hallways
• Drinking Fountains
• Toilets
• Glass
• Furniture
• All types of flooring such as wood, tile, carpet, floor mats etc.

Maintain cleanliness of Childcare and Kid Space by completing daily cleaning tasks including sanitizing bathrooms (sinks, counters, toilets, and door handles), wiping counters, sinks, cabinets, tables and chairs, emptying trash, recycling, and diaper pails, sweeping/vacuuming, mopping, and maintaining a sanitary environment. Complete monthly deep cleaning in Childcare and Kid Space, including cleaning ceiling fans, radiators, vents, heating and A/C ducts, and baseboards. Mop the Kid Space mat area daily after closing. On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, Kid Space cleaning must be completed after the area closes at 7:00 PM. 9. Required to perform duties in a timely, safe and efficient manner 10.Other Duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, the incumbent must have the following qualifications to successfully perform the position:

• Understand the GSV Y mission, the purpose of its programs, and be committed to the corporate operating principles.
• The ability to communicate and get along with people of diverse backgrounds is required.
• Must be able to read and be capable of interpreting oral and written instructions
• Capable of working independently and be organized
• Ability to lift reasonable loads 25-30 pounds in daily routine.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS

• Must be at least 14 years old - working permit is required.
• General experience in custodial areas preferred.
• All YMCA staff must have, or be in the process of obtaining, CPR/AED and First Aid certification, and Child Abuse Prevention Training.
