Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the School Director, the custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly school environment. This is accomplished through daily cleaning (dusting, vacuuming, mopping, sanitizing restrooms, emptying trash), restocking supplies, performing minor maintenance (bulb/ceiling tile changes, simple repairs), assisting with event setup, and reporting safety/repair needs, ensuring facilities and grounds are ready and safe for students and staff. This is a full-time position with the hours of Monday through Friday, 7am - 3:30pm. Additional overtime hours may be available.

Essential Functions:

Daily Cleaning :

Dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and disinfecting classrooms, hallways, offices, and restrooms.

Waste Management :

Collecting, bagging, and disposing of trash.

Restroom Maintenance :

Cleaning and sanitizing fixtures and floors, restocking soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.

Floor Care :

Vacuuming carpets and wet mopping hard floors.

Minor Maintenance :

Changing light bulbs, ceiling tiles, and reporting issues like leaks, pest problems, or hazards.

Supply Management :

Monitoring and replenishing cleaning supplies; receiving deliveries.

Event Support :

Setting up and breaking down for school activities, meetings, and special events.

Security :

Ensuring alarm and/or keycard operated doors are locked and secured.

Groundskeeping :

Collecting, bagging, and disposing of trash in parking lot and surrounding grounds. May involve snow/ice removal or basic landscaping.

Reporting :

Communicating maintenance needs, supply shortages, and safety concerns to supervisors. Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor

Equipment:

Uses hand tools of trade and related power equipment, including brooms, mops, floor cleaning machine, vacuum cleaners, shovels, and hand tools.

Skills and Requirements:

• Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment used in the performance of duties.
• Wear appropriate safety gear. Must comply with school' s chemical hygiene program and follow Safety Data Sheets (SDS) sheets. Basic understanding of safety protocols and hazardous materials.
• Familiarity with cleaning chemicals and equipment.

Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail. Ability to follow schedules and work independently or as part of a team. Requires physical stamina for lifting, being above ground from ladders, bending, and standing for long periods. May involve working around school schedules, including evenings or weekends for deep cleaning. Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor, and to coordinate work with supervisor and others. Ability to read, write and speak English fluently. Ability to describe orally or in writing cleaning, maintenance or repair problems as needed. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure. Ability to work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow. Exposure to cleaning chemicals, solvents and contaminated trash, grasses, pollen, etc.

Qualifications Profile:

High School Diploma or GED A combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance of the duties. Previous experience in building and cleaning maintenance is desirable. Valid driver's license or ability to provide own transportation.
