Job Description

THE POSITION
As a Custodial Worker 1 with the Hollidaysburg Veterans' Home, you will play an important part in creating a healthy and pleasant environment. Your efforts will help residents, staff, and visitors feel safe and supported. This job brings variety, teamwork, and meaningful daily tasks. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This role supports the daily upkeep of the facility by performing cleaning, sanitation, and general maintenance tasks. The work helps ensure that residents and staff have a secure and orderly environment. As a Custodial Worker 1, you will perform the following duties:
Deep Cleaning:
Perform thorough cleaning of resident rooms, offices, common areas, and specialized spaces
General Cleaning:
Carry out tasks such as mopping, dusting, sweeping, polishing, and sanitizing a wide range of surfaces and equipment
Waste Handling:
Collect and dispose of trash, recyclables, and infectious waste in proper locations
Supply Management:
Restock soap, paper products, cleaning supplies, and related materials
Safety Support:
Maintain safe work areas and report hazards or problems to supervisors
Equipment Assistance:
Move heavy furniture and clean mobility equipment such as wheelchairs and Geri chairs Interested in learning more? Additional details regarding this position can be found in the position description.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment (7.5 hours per day; 75 hours biweekly) Work hours are 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM (2nd shift), rotating days and weekends, with a 30-minute lunch.
Telework:
You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Additional Requirement:
You must be able to perform essential job functions. Preferred Qualifications (not required): Work experience as a custodian, janitor, or cleaning person (Experience might include such things as cleaning restrooms; cleaning resident rooms, offices, or public areas; mopping, scrubbing, dusting, sweeping, and buffing) Work experience in an assisted living facility, nursing home, or hospital Work experience interacting with patients or residents while cleaning in patient or resident rooms or a dining room setting Work experience cleaning bodily fluids and disposing infectious waste into proper storage areas Work experience removing snow, trash, and debris from sidewalks and entrance ways Work experience using and mixing chemicals or solvents Work experience using manual or power equipment to mop, scrub, sweep, strip, wax, and buff floors Custodial work experience in one of the following environments: activity or recreation room; bathroom, shower, or bathing room; cafeteria or dining room; entranceway, lobby, or common space; nursing station; patient or resident rooms; pharmacy; physical therapy rooms
