Custodian I University of Michigan - 4.3 Dearborn, MI Job Details Full-time 6 hours ago Qualifications English High school diploma or GED Full Job Description Job Summary The Custodian I performs all custodial duties using our team cleaning system, including the use of a 13-20 pound backpack vacuum. The basic custodial duties include cleaning restrooms, picking up debris on floors, cleaning offices and all areas of the building. This position operates equipment used for routine maintenance work including but not limited to power washers, upholstery and carpet spot cleaning machines, and counter rotating brush carpet pile lifters. Custodial staff are considered critical employees which means, in the event of a University of Michigan-Dearborn emergency reduction in operations, including a public health emergency, suspension of academic classes, or during weather-related reductions in operations, the Manager of Building Services has designated this position as critical. Responsibilities• Operate vacuum cleaning equipment. Clean and polish furniture, cases, fixtures, and furnishings. Clean mirrors, inside of exterior glass and both sides of interior glass while standing on floor or stool. Clean and disinfect toilets, restroom fixtures, dispensers, partitions, and floor. Stock Restroom supplies. Dust venetian blinds while standing on floor or stool. Spot wash walls to remove such items as splash marks around sinks, and finger prints around light switches. Make beds and change linens. Performs laundry and ironing services. Collect and transport soiled linens and all waste materials to designated locations. Report items in need of repair. Sweep and dust floors and stairways. Wet mop areas of floor or stairs to clean up such items as spilled liquid or food. Wet mop, damp mop, spot mop, and dust furnishings. Maintain an inventory of supplies in accordance with specific instructions. Open or lock buildings or rooms. Turn off and on lights and equipment. Set up / tear down chairs and tables for events. Clean assigned area of work and equipment.
