A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description Job Summary Under close supervision, performs routine custodial and grounds maintenance duties to ensure a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment. Responsibilities include cleaning and maintaining public areas of academic and administrative buildings, medical facilities, residence halls, and apartments; assisting with the upkeep of assigned grounds; and completing all assigned cleaning tasks. Employees must be able to work any shift, and overtime may be required as needed. Performs duties under general supervision and determines the methods and sequence for completing assigned work. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of custodial cleaning methods, equipment, and chemicals. Knowledge of basic safety and sanitation practices. Skill in cleaning and maintaining facilities. Skill in following instructions and managing assigned tasks. Ability to perform physical work, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to work any shift and overtime as required. Ability to maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment. Required Qualifications Successful completion of the eighth grade. Knowledge of basic custodial cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
