What they do

A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

COFFEE COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM
Job Description Custodian Responsible to:
Principal Head Custodian Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED Exhibits appropriate communication skills Meets necessary health and physical requirements in order to fulfill the physical demands
Essential Responsibilities:
Maintains all buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times Assists in maintaining an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand Regulates heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity Follows proper safety procedures to maintain the security of the building and grounds Performs minor building repairs Reports major repair needs promptly Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash and waste Knows and follows all safety rules and proper procedures associated with the job of custodian Participates in required annual safety training Works in conjunction with district maintenance personnel to maintain building needs Demonstrates positive customer service skills

Follows Federal and State Laws and adopted policies and procedures in accordance with School Board priorities Conducts oneself in the best interest of students, in accordance with the highest standards of public education and in support of the District's Vision/Mission Statements Maintains ethical standards, which include professionalism and the protection of confidential student and staff information Other responsibilities and/or duties may be required and assigned BOE Revisions Approved 2/8/10
