A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description

The custodian is to maintain and protect our facilities. The external and internal appearance of a building reflects on the occupants. It is important for a custodian, or janitor, to be careful and thorough in working, cleaning and tidying the premises, as well as preventing vandalism.
POSITION SUMMARY
The ideal candidate will be experienced in a custodian role focused on building upkeep. They will have great physical endurance to cover a large space. A keen eye for detail and diligence is also imperative in custodial maintenance jobs.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure spaces are prepared for the next day by taking out trash, tidying furniture and dusting surfaces Sweep and mop floors and vacuum carpets Wash and sanitize toilets and sinks and restock disposables (e.g. soap and paper products) Clean windows, mirrors and other glass surfaces Maintain outer premises and clean entrance areas Transport garbage to dumpster Maintain supplies and order as needed Report major damages and oversee repairs as needed Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED Required
OTHER SKILLS
Proven experience as custodian, janitor or in a similar role Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components Familiarity with basic landscaping and handyman practices Attention to detail and conscientiousness Very good physical condition and strength Must be forklift certified
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Position performs work mostly in the Shop setting which includes a variety of working conditions.
These include the following conditions:
noise level fluctuations from moderate to high, use of personal protective equipment, machine/equipment use. Position involves everyday risks or exposure to elements that require safety precautions. Position will be required to work in adverse weather conditions such as heat, humidity, cold, precipitation, etc.
