Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Custodian to join our facilities maintenance team. The Custodian will be responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and overall upkeep of our premises, creating a welcoming environment for staff, visitors, and clients. This role requires a proactive approach to cleaning and maintenance tasks, adherence to safety protocols, and excellent customer service skills. The ideal candidate will possess custodial experience and a strong understanding of cleaning procedures, equipment handling, and sanitation standards. Responsibilities Perform routine cleaning duties across various areas, including floors, restrooms, offices, and common spaces using appropriate cleaning equipment such as floor buffers and scrubbers. Handle chemical agents safely during cleaning operations, following all chemical handling safety procedures to prevent accidents or health hazards. Conduct heavy lifting tasks following safe lifting practices when moving furniture, supplies, or equipment. Maintain cleanliness standards by sanitizing surfaces and ensuring proper disposal of waste in accordance with sanitation protocols. Operate cleaning machinery efficiently, including vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and industrial cleaning tools. Assist with minor facilities maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs or repairing fixtures when necessary. Support residential painting or minor repair projects as part of broader facilities upkeep. Follow safety protocols diligently to ensure a secure environment for all staff and visitors. Collaborate with other maintenance personnel to ensure the facility remains in optimal condition. Respond promptly to cleaning requests from staff or management to maintain high standards of cleanliness. Requirements Prior janitorial or custodial experience in commercial or industrial settings is highly preferred. Knowledge of cleaning procedures, sanitation standards, and chemical handling safety procedures. Ability to operate various cleaning equipment including floor buffers and industrial vacuums. Physical capability for manual handling tasks such as heavy lifting and prolonged standing or walking. Strong commitment to safety protocol adherence and maintaining a safe work environment. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with staff and visitors. Experience with facilities maintenance tasks such as minor repairs or residential painting is advantageous. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple responsibilities efficiently.
