Job Description
Primary Purpose:
Perform routine cleaning, fueling, and general support services for district buses and transportation vehicles to ensure they are clean, safe, and ready for daily operation. Assist the Transportation Department with maintaining an organized, efficient, and safe bus yard and transportation facility.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Ability to operate cleaning equipment and basic hand tools
Knowledge of safe cleaning practices and use of cleaning supplies
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to maintain regular attendance and punctuality
Ability to perform physical labor in indoor and outdoor environments
Experience:
Experience in custodial, vehicle cleaning, or maintenance support preferred
Experience working in a school district or transportation setting preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Vehicle Cleaning and Preparation
Clean the interior and exterior of school buses and other transportation vehicles on a scheduled basis.
Sweep, mop, vacuum, and sanitize bus floors, seats, handrails, windows, and driver areas.
Remove trash and debris from buses and transportation facilities.
Wash buses and vehicles using approved cleaning materials and equipment.
Refill and restock supplies on buses as assigned.
Fueling and Fluid Support
Fuel buses and district transportation vehicles as assigned and according to department procedures.
Check and report low levels of fluids (washer fluid, oil, coolant, etc.) to appropriate transportation staff.
Maintain accurate fueling and service logs as required.
Yard and Facility Support
Assist with keeping the transportation lot, wash rack, fueling area, and workspaces clean and orderly.
Help maintain cleanliness and organization of storage areas, equipment, and supplies.
Assist with moving buses and vehicles within the transportation yard only when authorized and properly trained.
Support transportation staff with routine non-mechanical tasks as assigned.
Safety and Compliance
Follow all district safety procedures and transportation department protocols.
Use cleaning chemicals and equipment in accordance with manufacturer instructions and district guidelines.
Report safety hazards, damage, vandalism, and maintenance concerns promptly.
Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain a safe work environment.
Follow all applicable local, state, and district policies and procedures.
Other Duties
Maintain positive working relationships with supervisors, drivers, mechanics, and campus staff.
Participate in training as required by the district.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and lifting
Ability to lift and carry moderate to heavy loads (up to 50 pounds, with assistance if needed)
Frequent use of hands for grasping, cleaning, and operating equipment
Work outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, humidity)
Exposure to cleaning chemicals, fumes, noise, and vehicle traffic
May work early morning, evening, or occasional weekend hours as needed
