A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description

Fannindel ISD is currently seeking a full-time custodian.
Primary Purpose:
To clean and maintain district facilities using routine procedures to ensure a high standard os safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in building operations and grounds..
Qualifications:
Education/Certificate:
High School Diploma or GED (preferred)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to read and understand instructions related to cleaning, maintenance, and safety Aptitude for completing assigned task efficiently and thoroughly Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift materials and equipment Ability to handle and store cleaning supplies safely and properly Ability to collaborate and work effectively with others Ability to speak and read
English Experience:
Previous cleaning experience (preferred) Major Responsibilities and Duties Clean and sanitize classrooms, restrooms, corridors, offices, cafeterias, and other designated areas. Maintain clean and orderly campus grounds, including sidewalks, and recreational areas. Follow regulations and procedures for safe storage and disposal of trash and waste. Assist in tracking inventory and requesting cleaning supplies and equipment as needed.
Maintenance and Repair:
Report necessary repairs and safety concerns to the building Principal. Assist with routine preventive maintenance for health and safety of students and staff. Move and arrange furniture or equipment as directed; support setup for school events and functions.
Other Duties:
Demonstrate professionalism and ethical behavior, serving as a role model for students, staff and the community. Perform additional task as assigned by supervisors.
Safety:
Open and close facilities as scheduled, ensuring all exit doors are operational and secure. Inspect and operate equipment safely, following all safety guidelines and procedures. Promote workplace safety by adhering to all district policies and safety training, wearing protective gear, and reporting hazards or incidents immediately.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None Tools/Equipment Used:
Cleaning equipment (e.g., vacuums, buffers, strippers, shampoos) Cleaning chemicals and safety equipment
Physical Demands:
Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, stooping, climbing, pushing, pulling and walking. Lifting up to 30lbs without assistance; 30-55 lbs with assistance; over 55lbs with appropriate lifting devices.
Environmental Factors:
Work inside and outside in various weather conditions. Exposure to hot/cold temperatures, dust, chemicals, noise and potential hazards. Occasional irregular hours
Mental Demands:
Ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
