Janitor
JOB SUMMARY
A janitor maintains cleanliness and order in facilities such as schools, offices, hospitals, and residential buildings. They ensure that spaces are sanitary, organized, and safe for occupants.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
- Clean and sanitize floors, walls, windows, and surfaces
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors
- Empty trash bins and dispose of waste properly
- Clean restrooms and replenish supplies (soap, paper towels, etc.)
- Dust furniture, fixtures, and equipment
- Perform minor repairs (e.g., fixing leaks, replacing light bulbs)
- Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies
- Report safety hazards or maintenance issues
- Follow health and safety regulations
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE / SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- No formal education required (high school diploma may be preferred)
- On-the-job training is typically provided
- Previous cleaning or maintenance experience is a plus
- Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals and equipment
- Ability to operate cleaning machines (e.g., floor buffers, vacuums)
- Attention to detail and cleanliness
- Physical stamina (standing, bending, lifting)
- Time management and reliability
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Essential physical requirements include:
- Ability to stoop, bend and kneel, squat, kneel and pulling
- Extended periods of kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping
- Carry and lift heavy objects (up to 50lbs)
- Standing, sitting and walking Work Environment
- Indoor and outdoor cleaning tasks
