This position works solo without direct daily supervision, ensuring the school remains clean, safe, secure, and ready for students and staff. This position combines general custodial responsibilities with light maintenance, preventive maintenance, grounds care, and facilities support. The goal of the position is to maintain a clean, safe, and orderly learning environment while identifying and addressing routine facility needs. The anticipated schedule during the school year is 3:30p.m. - 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. During the summer, the anticipated schedule will be approximately 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, depending on scheduled projects and school needs. Some flexibility in work hours may be available . Pay will be based on experience and qualifications. Primary Responsibilities During a typical shift, the Second Shift Maintenance/Custodian will be responsible for: Performing general school cleaning. Completing routine repairs and light maintenance. Performing preventive maintenance. Responding to and closing facilities work tickets. Documenting work completed and actions taken. Reporting safety, security, maintenance, or facility concerns. Completing an end-of-shift handoff with the night custodial crew. This list is not intended to be comprehensive. Duties may change based on the needs of the school.
Maintenance Responsibilities may include:
Performing wall repairs, patching, and painting. Performing basic maintenance plumbing, electrical, HVAC equipment, and other systems. Performing routine preventive maintenance on equipment and machinery. Identifying maintenance issues and determining when a repair should be escalated to a supervisor. Assisting with facility projects and other maintenance tasks as assigned.
General Cleaning Responsibilities may include:
General cleaning of classrooms, offices, common areas, and restrooms. General restroom cleaning and restocking of supplies. Hard floor care, including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, burnishing, and polishing. Carpet and area rug care, including vacuuming, spot cleaning, and carpet cleaning. Maintaining assigned areas in a clean, safe, and orderly condition. Equipment The employee will be expected to safely operate and maintain specialized cleaning equipment, which may include: Vacuums. Floor buffers and burnishers. Ride-on floor scrubbers. Carpet cleaning equipment. Other custodial and maintenance equipment as assigned. Reporting and Safety The Second Shift Maintenance/Custodian is responsible for: Reporting safety hazards, security concerns, damage, and maintenance issues. Following established safety procedures and chemical-handling requirements. Using appropriate personal protective equipment when required. Completing and documenting facilities work tickets. Communicating unresolved issues to the appropriate supervisor. Maintaining awareness of building conditions while working throughout the school. Securing assigned areas at the end of the shift and ensuring doors and other designated areas are properly locked. A clear end-of-shift handoff should be completed so the night custodial crew is aware of outstanding issues, completed work, and anything requiring follow-up. All employees must abide by school policies and procedures that can be found on out schools website. Qualifications No prior experience required; training will be provided. Maintenance or custodial experience is preferred. Ability to safely operate and handle equipment, tools, and machinery. Ability to lift and carry approximately 30-60 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, kneel, squat, stoop, push, pull, twist, bend, and perform repetitive movements for extended periods of time. Familiarity with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) is preferred. Demonstrates integrity, dependability, and the ability to work independently. Bilingual in Spanish is a plus. Comfortable working safely with cleaning chemicals and following established chemical-handling procedures. Must be able to successfully pass a background check.
