Job Description
The University of Virginia Facilities Management Department offers a career that affords growth opportunities for employees within Facilities Management. We are seeking Custodial candidates for a 3:30pm - 12:00am Monday - Friday shift in the Housing zone. Custodians perform exceptional housekeeping services in assigned areas through safe work practices while using proper housekeeping techniques. The position maintains good working relationships with customers, staff, students, and supervisors. The Custodian completes special project work as assigned. They gain increasing efficiency with cleaning techniques, supplies, and equipment. Position Summary Basic housekeeping experience, including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning carpets, cleaning bathrooms and removal of trash is preferred. Ability to follow established policies, procedures, and directions, as well as adhere to regulatory guidelines in daily work is required. Ability to work effectively as part of a team, as well as written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are also essential. Basic computer, tablet, and/or smart phone usage and the ability to submit electronic timesheets are also required. Responsibilities
- Maintain offices, classrooms, restrooms, public areas, or other assigned academic areas in clean and orderly conditions.
- Perform more complex tasks including operating cleaning equipment such as auto scrubbers, buffers and burnishers.
- Remove trash, clean bathrooms, wipe down surfaces, dust, vacuum, mop etc. Apply proper methods and materials. May mix own cleaning solutions.
- Maintain clean and orderly housekeeping closets and equipment and keep inventories of supplies, requesting additional supplies as needed.
- Report all repairs and pest control needs, and any housekeeping-related violations by residents, guests, or staff.
- May perform minor maintenance tasks, such as changing lightbulbs.
- In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned. Minimum Qualifications

Some experience with basic housekeeping duties including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning carpets, cleaning bathrooms and removal of trash in a workplace setting is preferred. Physical Demands This role requires regular standing, walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, lifting, and carrying, with the ability to safely handle material and equipment weighing 25 pounds, and occasionally as much as 50 pounds. The position also calls for repetitive motion for reoccurring duties such as dusting and mopping, and while working in various indoor and outdoor environments. Salary Range- The estimated salary range is $15.00-$18.00/hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position also receives an additional $2.00/hour for evening shift differential.
