260 days Job Summary The Lead Custodian I is responsible for performing semi-skilled custodial work in supervising custodial personnel and participating in the cleaning and caring for assigned school buildings and grounds. The Lead Custodian I is directly responsible to the Custodial Foreman and building Principal. Essential Functions Plans, supervises and participates in the work of the custodians. Washes walls, ceilings, windows, blinds, and other building areas. Cleans, dusts, and polishes fixtures and furniture. Shovels snow; sands and treats walkways. Arranges rooms for meetings and activities. Cleans cafeteria and arranges furniture. Instructs subordinates in proper cleaning methods. Sweeps, vacuums or dust mops assigned areas. Scrubs and cleans toilets, including mirrors, wash basins, urinals, commodes, slop sinks; fills tissue, towel and soap dispensers. Opens and secures buildings. Makes such minor building repairs as he/she is capable of and report major repairs needed promptly to the principal or custodial foreman. Strips, seals, waxes and buffs floors. Keeps buildings premises, including sidewalks, driveways and play areas neat and clean at all times. Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy. Checks and accounts for tools, equipment and requisitions and controls the use of janitorial supplies. Maintains employee time sheets. Assists in the development of a preventive maintenance program. Job Specification (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required) Demonstrates an understanding of the job tasks. Possesses thorough knowledge of the use of a variety of cleaning materials, supplies and equipment. Demonstrates ability to move, transport, lift, and carry manually or with mechanical assistance boxes, books, supplies, equipment, and trash receptacles weighing up to 35 pounds. Demonstrates strength and manual dexterity to operate snow removal or lawn mowing equipment or to shovel show manually. Possesses thorough knowledge of building fixtures, mechanical systems and equipment, including low pressure heating plants. Demonstrates the ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinates. Demonstrates the ability to instruct and train employees in building operations and care. Demonstrates the ability to communicate clearly, orally and in writing. Demonstrates the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials and employees. Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications Education :
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma required.
