What they do

A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description

Green Mountain Union High School is seeking two dependable, self-motivated Custodians to join our facilities team and help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming learning environment for our students, staff, and community.
Available Positions:
Morning Custodian Full-Time, Year-Round (1.0 FTE), 8-hours per dayEvening Custodian Full-Time, Year-Round (1.0 FTE), 8-hours per dayMondayFriday schedule. Specific work hours will be determined based on the assigned shift.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities include, but are not limited to: Empty wastebaskets, trash cans, and recycling containers.

Clean and sanitize restrooms, toilets, urinals, sinks, and related facilities.

Address minor restroom stoppages as needed.

Sweep, vacuum, and mop classrooms, hallways, offices, and common areas.

Clean windows, counters, furniture, and other surfaces.

Restock restroom and classroom supplies, including soap, toilet paper, paper towels, and hand sanitizer.

Complete seasonal maintenance tasks such as painting, grounds cleanup, and snow removal.

Set up and break down classrooms, meeting rooms, the gymnasium, and other spaces for school and community events.

Ensure doors and windows are secured and lights are turned off at the end of each shift.

Assist with other custodial and building maintenance duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and attention to detail.

Ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment.

Ability to perform the physical demands of custodial work, including lifting, bending, standing, and operating custodial equipment.

Previous custodial or facilities maintenance experience is preferred but not required.
Compensation:
Compensation will be commensurate with related experience. The current bargaining agreement is under revision and is expected to be finalized in August 2026. Salary and benefits will be administered in accordance with the finalized agreement.
