A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description

Johnson Elementary School is dedicated to providing a clean and safe environment for students and staff. This is a full-time, permanent position with opportunities for growth and development.

As a custodian at Johnson Elementary School, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and overall appearance of the building. Your attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness will ensure a welcoming environment for all occupants. The ideal candidate will be self-reliant, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Duties:
  • Perform industrial cleaning tasks to uphold cleanliness and sanitation standards
  • Clean and disinfect restrooms, classrooms, and common areas
  • Empty trash receptacles and replace liners
  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors
  • Dust and sanitize surfaces
  • Clean windows and glass surfaces
  • Operate buffing machines to maintain floor appearance
  • Restock supplies in restrooms and other areas as necessary
  • Report any maintenance or repair needs to the Facilities ManagerSkills
  • Previous experience in custodial or janitorial work is preferred but not required
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently or collaboratively with a team
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
  • Good communication skills to interact with colleagues and supervisorsPlease note that this job description outlines primary responsibilities and qualifications.
