Job Description
Description Columbia Basin College ("CBC" or the "College") seeks a Custodian 4 that is the Custodial Supervisor for the Custodial Services Department within Facilities and has the responsibility for planning, organizing, delegating, and executing the performance of custodial work for CBC. The custodial team provides a clean, safe, comfortable environment for staff and students. Custodial does this by performing the general cleaning and housekeeping duties at all CBC buildings/facilities assigned. This position reports to the Director for Facilities Services. Primary Responsibilities Supervise and lead the Custodial Services Department in maintaining campus cleanliness, care of buildings, and continuity of operations by directly supervising custodial shift leads, providing leadership, guidance, and support; Direct day-to-day custodial operations to ensure adherence to established cleaning methodologies, efficient service delivery, proper staffing coverage, workload adjustments for absences or special projects, and continuous evaluation and improvement of cleaning models, workflows, morale, productivity, financial impacts, and operational improvement opportunities; Train, coach, and develop custodial staff and shift leads in custodial best practices, equipment usage, safety procedures, snow removal responsibilities, and documented life-cycle training programs to improve staff knowledge, work methods, and overall departmental effectiveness; Conduct regular inspections of campus buildings and grounds to assess custodial conditions, identify deficiencies or needed repairs, advise shift leads accordingly, and ensure departmental standards and College custodial guidelines are consistently met; Coordinate departmental planning, communication, and performance management by conducting regular meetings with custodial leads and shift staff for strategic planning, goal setting, problem solving, review recommendations and findings, implementation of process expectations, and preparation of evaluation conclusions and reports for the Director for Facilities Services; Maintain and manage custodial inventory, supplies, chemicals, furniture storage, and equipment by ordering and distributing products, ensuring proper equipment maintenance and operation, researching alternate or improved products, evaluating supply costs, and recommending cost-saving measures; Ensure compliance with all campus safety policies, procedures, and ongoing Safety Data Sheet (SDS) requirements relating to the handling and use of chemicals, custodial supplies, equipment, and operational practices; Develop, collect, track, and analyze departmental records and reports using applicable systems and tools, including custodial workload analyses, service requirements, employee performance, job cards, cleaning efficiency metrics, key performance measures, recycling collection schedules, quality control data, and other records as needed; Assist with custodial support functions including recycling operations, event/classroom/meeting set-up and tear-down, office and workstation moves, furnishing relocations, and operation of light trucks, vans, and other mobile equipment in support of campus needs; Serve as a working supervisor by performing custodial duties and snow removal activities as needed to ensure uninterrupted departmental support and completion of assigned responsibilities; and Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Two (2) years of experience supervising custodial staff or directing others in large scale janitorial, housekeeping or facilities support work; Ability to read, write and communicate in English; Current ISSA Custodial Certification or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire; and Possession of a valid U.S. driver's license or ability to obtain one before date of hire.

Terms of Employment This position is a full-time, overtime eligible classified staff position. The typical work hours for this position are Monday 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Tuesday through Thursday from 5:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; however, must be available to work a flexible schedule due to work demands and some prior notice is given by the College. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility, including frequent traveling between buildings on campus and driving employer vehicles off and around campus. Duties involve physical strength, agility and endurance to bend/reach, lift, pull or push objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, 80 pounds with help from others or by mechanical means, and climb a ladder and work from heights no more than 80 feet off the ground. Manual dexterity and coordination are required while operating equipment such as standard office equipment and custodial equipment. Working Conditions Work environment is performed in multiple locations such as a typical office environment, field and indoor/outdoor settings that includes some exposure to hazards or physical risks that require following safety and driving requirements. There may be exposure to chemical hazards requiring the use of rubber safety gloves and safety glasses as provided. Interruptions occur on a regular basis.
