ABOUT THE POSITION
Spokane Valley is seeking a highly qualified and enthusiastic employee to serve our City as a full-time Custodian, in our Facilities Maintenance department, performing a variety of semi-skilled custodial duties for facilities owned and operated by the City of Spokane Valley. Working hours for this position are Monday through Friday from 4:00 AM to 12:30 PM. The ideal candidate will have exceptional professional skills, a positive work attitude and a strong desire to provide superior service to both internal and external customers.
SELECTED EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Under the supervision of the Maintenance Facilities Manager, perform various custodial functions to ensure a safe, clean and orderly building. Clean and disinfect kitchen and restrooms, including toilets and sinks. Restocking supplies like soap, paper towels, toilet paper and other sanitary supplies. Sweep, mop and vacuum floors throughout common areas, hallways, stairwells, and offices. Dust surfaces, clean windows and sanitize high touch areas. Empty trash and recycling bins and dispose of waste properly according to facility protocols. Operate a variety of tools, equipment and machines including small hand tools typically used in janitorial work. Monitor cleaning supply levels, paper products and equipment submitting supply orders as needed. Inspect the facility for safety hazards and report any repair needs to management. Other duties as assigned.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Graduation from High School or GED and two years of custodial experience.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Working knowledge of the requirements for maintaining buildings in a safe, clean and orderly condition. Knowledge of safety policies and procedures including proper methods for storing equipment, materials and supplies. Skilled in proper cleaning techniques, ability to perform light manual tasks for extended periods of time; ability to work safely; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public; ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions. Requires superior customer service and interpersonal relationship skills.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a valid State driver's license or have the ability to obtain one prior to employment. Successful completion of a background check, including a criminal check, and pre-employment physical are requirements of employment in this position at the City of Spokane Valley.
SALARY:
Anticipated hiring range is in Grade 10 and will be $21.67 - $32.80 per hour.

Health benefits are provided through the Association of Washington Cities Employee Benefit Trust. The City currently provides medical, dental, life, long term disability, vision, health reimbursement account contributions and Employee Assistance benefits. Holiday, vacation, and sick leave are provided. The required retirement system of the City is Washington Public Employee's Retirement System (PERS) which requires an employee contribution. The City does not participate in Social Security. However, the City has adopted a MissionSquare(A) Social Security substitute plan with the same contribution rates as
