Job Description
Job Summary The Second Shift Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and security of school facilities during evening hours. Duties include performing routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and sanitizing classrooms, restrooms, and common areas, as well as assisting with minor maintenance and setup for events. This role requires attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to ensuring a clean and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. The custodian also helps secure the building at the end of the shift and promptly addresses any facility-related issues that arise. Collaborate with Supervisor, Head and Lead Custodian and Building Principal to ensure an adequate custodial and cleaning program for the school Coordinate with Supervisor, Head and Lead Custodian, Building Principal, and Athletics/Activities Director to ensure readiness for day-to-day activities and special events Prioritize and complete daily cleaning, grounds work, and custodial activities, as directed by Supervisor. Responsible for snow removal and salting of all facilities Complete maintenance and repair activities on a scheduled and as-needed basis, such as repairing and maintaining small equipment, changing air filters, etc. Maintain knowledge of cleaning supply safe practices and manuals Maintain a positive attitude to meet the custodial needs and expectations of building staff Assist as needed at other buildings to complete work during times of special projects or personnel absences Serve as a positive adult role model during interactions with students Establish and utilize productive relationships with parents/guardians, students, staff, and community Participate in activities which contribute to the effective operation of the school Understand and follow District safety protocols and procedures Other tasks as assigned by the Lead Custodian, Head Custodian, Supervisor or Director of Buildings and Grounds. Required Skills/Abilities Proficiency in various cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing surfaces. Knowledge of proper cleaning agents and chemicals, as well as their safe and effective usage. Ability to notice and address small details to ensure thorough cleaning and maintenance of the facility. Efficient time management skills to complete tasks within established timeframes and prioritize duties effectively. Skill in organizing cleaning supplies and equipment and maintaining an orderly storage area. Effective communication skills to understand and follow instructions, as well as to communicate with other staff members or supervisors. Capability to identify and address issues related to maintenance, repairs, or cleanliness independently or by reporting them to the appropriate personnel. Physical fitness and stamina to handle the demands of the job, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods. Adaptability to handle various cleaning and maintenance tasks, as well as to respond to unexpected situations or emergencies. Ability to work well with other custodial staff and collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other school personnel. Knowledge of safety procedures and protocols to ensure a secure environment for students, staff, and visitors. Basic understanding of routine maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs, fixing minor plumbing issues, and addressing other facility-related concerns. Courteous and helpful demeanor when interacting with students, staff, and visitors. Education, Qualifications and Experience Working knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in maintaining the cleanliness of a commercial building or facility One (1) year experience as a custodian, preferred Ability to meet all requirements and responsibilities, including a high school diploma or G.E.D. Good organization and public relation skills. Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, such as cleaning supplies, equipment, and furniture. Ability to lift up to fifty pounds in a general work setting Capability to move and rearrange furniture as needed

Flexibility to bend, stoop, and kneel for extended periods while performing cleaning tasks or maintenance work
Walking and Standing:
Stamina to stand or walk for long periods during cleaning routines, inspections, or while attending to various tasks throughout the facility

Capability to climb ladders or stairs to reach high places for cleaning or maintenance purposes
Repetitive Motion:
Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as mopping, vacuuming, and scrubbing floors
Manual Dexterity:
Proficiency in using hand tools and cleaning equipment, such as brooms, mops, vacuum cleaners, and power washers.
Physical Endurance:
Endurance to handle physically demanding tasks and work in a fast-paced environment, especially during peak cleaning periods or special events.
Health and Safety Compliance:
Adherence to safety protocols and the ability to use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
