Join Our Team as a Library Cleaner•Help Keep Our Community Spaces Sparkling! Are you searching for a hands-on role that keeps you active while supporting your community? The City of West Allis is hiring a Part-Time Library Cleaner to help maintain our public library. This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in creating clean, welcoming spaces and enjoys tackling a variety of tasks in a dynamic environment. As a Library Cleaner, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring the cleanliness and safety of our 48,000-square-foot library and its surrounding grounds. Your responsibilities will include cleaning restrooms, sweeping floors, dusting furniture, and setting up equipment for events. Your efforts will help create a vibrant, inviting space for patrons of all ages. Floating Schedule (Part-Time):
Fridays:
2:00 PM•6:30PM Saturdays:
Split shift — 8:00 AM•12:00 PM and 2:00 PM•6:00PM Sundays:
12:00 PM•5:30PM Occasional Fill-ins:
Weekdays or evenings as needed, based on availability (to cover for regular staff absences) This is primarily a weekend position, shared with other cleaners. Shifts may vary from weekend to weekend (e.g., one weekend might include Friday and Sunday, while another might only include Saturday). Cleaning Tasks Sweep, vacuum, mop, and wash floors Dust and clean walls, windows, furniture, and equipment Clean restrooms: sinks, toilets, urinals, and drinking fountains Replace supplies: toilet paper, soap, paper towels Sanitation & Safety Follow disinfection procedures for body fluids (e.g., blood, vomit) Use personal protective equipment (PPE) properly Report unusual or unsafe conditions Enforce safety rules and prevent vandalism Equipment & Fixtures Set up, move, and dismantle portable equipment Clean lighting fixtures and replace bulbs Clean blinds and window shades Use ladders or lifts when needed Moving & Deliveries Move furniture and supplies within the building Occasionally deliver materials using a pickup truck Outdoor Maintenance Sweep walkways and remove debris Shovel snow and control ice buildup Use snow blowers and other equipment Pick up litter around the building End-of-Shift Duties Secure the building Click Here To Review Job Duties (PDF)MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma/ GED. At least one year of recent paid work experience in general building cleaning is desirable. Ability to work the floating schedule outlined above. Possess the physical capacity to perform the duties of the position including, but not limited to, the ability to perform manual work requiring average physical strength, occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. with aides, frequent pushing and pulling up to 25 lbs.; occasional shoveling of up to 50 lbs.; the ability to work from a step ladder, and the ability to continuously stand, walk, bend, kneel, sit, climb, twist, stoop, crawl, squat, lift, stretch and reach overhead, push, pull, etc.Similar jobs in West Allis, WI
