Job Description

As a member of the hospitality team, the Kitchen Assistant supports the preparation and service of quality, nutritious meals for guests, while helping to maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment. This role plays a key part in the hospitality and ministry we offer to campers and guests through food service. Mt. Cross Ministries, Ben Lomond, is hiring seasonal Assistant Cooks starting immediately through mid August. Openings available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner shifts. Opportunity for additional weekend shifts year-round. Responsibilities include assisting in meal preparations, clean-up, and dishes. The ideal candidate will bring an enthusiasm about food safety and have the ability to behave safely around children and retreat guests.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Prior food service experience preferred but not required. California Food Handlers Certification required upon hire.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist the Food Service Manager in the kitchen in meal preparation and clean up, working under the supervision of the Food Service Manager.
  • Provide a Christian witness in attitude and personality traits by working as part of the kitchen team and in serving the needs of campers in food service areas.
  • Active Christian stewardship of food and kitchen supplies, avoiding all waste.
  • Be responsibly alert for the health and safety needs of all campers.
  • Be responsible for the stewardship of all camp facilities and equipment.
  • Understand, interpret, and maintain the camp's standards and policies.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Share the primary cooking responsibilities with the Food Service Manager.
  • Assist with the serving of all meals and be responsible for re-fills and leftovers.
  • Maintain the safe storage of food including adherence to the state food service rules and regulations, as stated by the Department of Health.
  • Strictly enforce legal and sanitary standards for safe food service operation.
  • Refrigerators and coolers shall be cleaned at least once every 7 days. Leftover foods shall be discarded prior to food preparation for a new week.
  • Responsible for keeping the kitchen area clean and sanitary.
Includes wiping down cupboards, pantry, kitchen equipment and bathroom. Also, sweeping and mopping floors, floor mats, bathroom and back porch area.
