Owner About the Role We are looking for a Part-Time Kitchen Assistant Manager to lead the kitchen at our neighborhood wine bar. This is a hands-on role for someone who loves great, unique food, hospitality, and creating a consistent, welcoming experience for guests. The Kitchen Assistant Manager will oversee day-to-day kitchen operations, maintain high food-quality and cleanliness standards, manage inventory and ordering, and help develop a simple, seasonal food program that complements our wine and cocktail selection. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, calm under pressure, and comfortable working independently in a small, unpredictable environment. Key Responsibilities Kitchen Operations Lead daily kitchen operations during scheduled shifts. Prepare and oversee preparation of menu items while maintaining consistency and quality. Ensure proper food handling, storage, sanitation, and cleanliness. Maintain an organized, efficient, and safe kitchen. Open and/or close the kitchen according to established procedures. Troubleshoot operational issues and communicate effectively with management. Food & Menu Maintain consistent execution and presentation of the menu. Assist with menu development, specials, seasonal offerings, and wine-pairing-friendly dishes. Monitor portion sizes and food quality to help maintain target food costs. Minimize waste through thoughtful preparation and inventory management. Keep recipes, prep lists, and kitchen procedures organized and up to date. Inventory & Ordering Monitor food and kitchen supply inventory. Place orders with approved vendors. Receive and properly store deliveries. Track product usage, spoilage, and waste. Help maintain food costs within established targets. Team Leadership Train and support kitchen staff in food preparation, sanitation, and service standards. Create clear prep priorities and delegate tasks during service. Lead by example with a positive, professional attitude. Communicate staffing, supply, or operational concerns to management. What We're Looking For Previous experience in a commercial kitchen. Strong cooking and food-preparation skills. Experience working in a restaurant, wine bar, café, or other hospitality environment. Excellent organization and time-management skills. Ability to work efficiently during busy service periods. Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation. Reliable, accountable, and comfortable taking ownership of the kitchen. A genuine interest in hospitality, food, wine, and creating a great guest experience. A culinary degree is not required. We value hands-on experience, sound judgment, and a passion for quality. Schedule & Physical Requirements This is a part-time, hands-on position. The schedule will primarily include evening and weekend shifts, with occasional prep, ordering, or menu-development time as needed. The role requires the ability to: Stand and work in a kitchen for extended periods. Lift and carry food, supplies, and equipment. Work in a hot, fast-paced environment.
