Located in the greater Los Angeles area, we bridge a gap by offering the only camp specifically designed for LGBTQ youth in the region. At Brave Trails, we strive to create meaningful experiences that inspire confidence, community, and impactful leadership. Role Description Join the Brave Trails Unicorn Crew! As a member of our Kitchen Staff , you'll support the health and wellness of our community and keep camp running smoothly behind the scenes. The kitchen is the heart of camp, and your role is vital in ensuring every camper and staff member is nourished and ready for the day. The Kitchen Staff plays a crucial role in the magic of Brave Trails. This position involves a mix of high-energy teamwork during meal rushes and focused independent work during prep and cleanup. This position will be part of our exceptional core seasonal team and candidates must be committed to living and working at our camp location from June 8th - July 22nd, 2026.
KITCHEN TEAM DUTIES
Work with your team daily to prepare a variety of dishes for our campers and staff with specialty diets Manage kitchen safety, including facility operations, set-ups, fires, allergy, and food-borne illness communications. Maintain and track inventory, including ordering, cataloging, and utilizing excess Work with the Director team to manage your scheduled hours- including your breaks! Be open to occasional special requests (i.e. a birthday cake, staff celebration, etc) Maintain all kitchen equipment (inventory, storage, notifying leadership if repairs or replacements are required). Work efficiently and equitably with established onsite camp staff Work with your team to reset your station after each service, ensuring a clean, tidy, and sanitized workspace Oversee daily station checks for cleanliness and organization. (Optional) You are invited and welcomed to participate in camp activities, including (but not limited to) attending evening programs, special events, and all-camp activities as assigned/available Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and handle the physical and mental demands of a rustic camp environment.TRAINING DUTIES
Assist directors in training staff on their responsibilities as they pertain to mealtimes.(ex camper management, flow of service, addressing individual meal requests etc) Attend onsite training with existing facility staff for kitchen orientation Evaluate training effectiveness and suggest modifications if necessary. Support and mentor new staff if necessary to ensure they understand kitchen processes. Qualifications Must be 21+ years old.Commitment to full summer:
June 8th - July 22nd, 2026. Must pass a government background check and reference check. Must be in good physical and mental health to work long days. Ability to work long days while maintaining a positive attitude Experience in institutional food service settings (ability to batch cook or cook in large quantities). Experience cooking for folks with specialty/alternative diets (Gluten-Free, Vegan, Vegetarian, Mild and Severe Food Allergies, etc) Current Food Handlers Certification. Knowledge of standards of food preparation and serving, storage of food, and kitchen procedures.Pay:
