JOB SUMMARY - KITCHEN ASSISTANT
At Aubergine Kitchen, the Kitchen Assistant is a key player in the smooth operation of the kitchen. Working side by side with the cooks, they ensure ingredients are ready, support tasks are completed efficiently, and the kitchen remains organized, clean, and stocked. Their direct support contributes to the flow of service, food quality, and overall team efficiency throughout the day. With attention to detail and a collaborative spirit, the Kitchen Assistant helps maintain food safety standards, assists in the preparation of proteins and sauces, supports cooling and storage processes, and helps ensure each guest receives a flavorful meal that meets our standard of excellence.
MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
The Kitchen Assistant at Aubergine Kitchen is responsible for supporting the lead cooks (morning and night) in daily tasks, ensuring efficiency in prep work, station organization, and adherence to food safety and quality standards. This role is essential to keeping up with the kitchen's pace and production flow throughout the day.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in preparing proteins, sauces, and other hot items according to the instructions of the lead cook and kitchen manager. Support cooking, reheating, cooling, and storing of food, ensuring temperatures are accurately recorded. Carry out ingredient prep and keep the production area constantly stocked. Properly label and organize food items, respecting expiration dates and FIFO (First In, First Out) rotation. Clean and sanitize equipment, utensils, and surfaces during and after the shift, following company standards. Assist with shift-to-shift communication, documenting what was prepared, cooled, or left ready for the next day. Support cooks in organizing the kitchen for store opening and closing. Restock the line with proteins and sauces as needed during service. The night shift kitchen assistant should help with restaurant closing duties, assisting with cleaning various areas as needed. Strictly follow all food handling and safety procedures. Inform the manager of any missing ingredients, quality issues, or damaged equipment.

At Aubergine Kitchen, we are all responsible for delivering an excellent customer experience. In addition to your daily tasks, you may be asked to assist in other areas or tasks during peak hours or slower moments, such as:• Clearing bowls and utensils from tables after use. Helping clean and organize the dining area (tables, chairs, floor). Restocking disposable utensils, napkins, and bags at the self-service station. Providing support to the team or other areas as needed, always keeping the customer experience in focus.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Support other kitchen stations when necessary. Participate in training and deep-cleaning projects. Assist with training new assistants when directed. Ensure all hygiene and safety procedures are correctly followed.
REQUIRED SKILLS/COMPETENCIES
Speaking English is considered a plus, especially to facilitate communication with leaders and coworkers. Organization and attention to detail when prepping and plating meals. Speed and focus to perform well during peak hours. Commitment to hygiene, cleanliness, and food safety. Strong communication and teamwork. Professionalism, punctuality, and responsibility. Proactivity in keeping stations stocked and supporting kitchen tasks. Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic environment. Speaking English is a plus, but not required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must be at least 18 years old. Prior experience in a professional kitchen is preferred, but not required. Must successfully complete the company training and specific kitchen area training. Must present a valid Food Handler certificate within 14 days of hiring.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Available to work 30 to 40 hours per week, including weekends and holidays. Able to stand and move around for long periods of time. Able to lift, push, and carry up to 50 pounds (approx. 22kg). Good physical stamina and agility to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment,whether on morning or night shifts. Exposure to heat, steam, and cold, which are common in the kitchen environment. Kitchen experience is preferred but not required.
