Full Job Description Job Summary:

This position involves either the daily opening, mid-shift or closing shift of the kitchen at the nearly 34 year old Bourgeois Pig Cafe in beautiful Lincoln Park. Kitchen employees are responsible for making all of our famous signature sandwiches, salads and breakfast items to order, restocking of the line, prepping for the next shift, slicing meats and cheese, prepping vegetables, making soup, basic cleaning and kitchen maintenance, preparing catering orders when needed, etc. Must have an uncomplicated availability to work. Must be available at least one weekend shift, without exception, two is even better! Seeking someone who works and moves with a sense of urgency and has body awareness in a busy kitchen. Applicants will need to be able to lift light to medium loads when putting away supply deliveries. Job requires frequent trips to the basement walk-in cooler, which is down 1 flight of stairs. Must be able to work responsibly and efficiently alone or as a team. We are seeking someone who is fun and upbeat to join our team, and someone who is clean, keeps busy and likes to work! Whiners, slow-pokes or negative people need not waste our time. Absolutely no cell phones while you are working.

Tips:

This is a TIPPED position as well. Kitchen staff shares part of the tip pool with front of house staff. Depending on the day and shift this can increase your hourly earnings by several dollars per hour. It is an automated tipping pool by Toast, and is based on tips earned per shift worked and hours worked per shift.

Qualifications and Skills:

Previous experience in a fast paced restaurant type environment is definitely preferred but we will consider all applicants based on their individual life experiences and previous work experience. Chicago Food Handler's certification is a big plus...not Illinois, CHICAGO is the only one that counts in the city. Good communication skills and a firm grasp of English is required. Good knife skills are a plus as well.
