Commercial Hot side/Cold side Kitchen Technician

Commercial Kitchen Equipment Technician (Hot & Cold Side) Job Summary The Commercial Kitchen Equipment Technician is responsible for installing, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining commercial food service equipment, including cooking (hot side) and refrigeration (cold side) systems. This role ensures all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with health and safety standards. Key Responsibilities Hot Side Equipment Diagnose and repair commercial cooking equipment (ranges, ovens, fryers, grills, steamers, etc.) Troubleshoot gas, electric, and steam systems Calibrate thermostats and temperature controls Repair ignition systems and heating elements Perform preventive maintenance inspections Ensure compliance with safety codes and manufacturer specifications Cold Side Equipment Diagnose and repair refrigeration systems (walk-in coolers/freezers, prep tables, ice machines, etc.) Check refrigerant levels and repair leaks Replace compressors, evaporators, and condensers Test and repair defrost systems and temperature controls Perform system performance checks and documentation Maintain EPA compliance for refrigerant handling Qualifications & Requirements High school diploma or technical certification in HVAC/R or appliance repair EPA certification (required for refrigeration work) 2+ years of commercial kitchen equipment experience (preferred) Knowledge of gas, electrical (single & three-phase), and refrigeration systems Ability to read wiring diagrams and service manuals Valid driver's license and clean driving record Skills & Competencies Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills Mechanical aptitude Time management and ability to work independently Strong customer service skills Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in tight spaces Work Environment Restaurants, hotels, hospitals, schools, catering facilities On-call or emergency service may be required Exposure to heat, cold, grease, and noise
