Child Development Resources (CDR) is looking for an enthusiastic Kitchen Manager/Cook to prepare nutritious meals for infants, toddlers, and staff in our Early Head Start program. What You'll Do As Kitchen Manager/Cook, you'll oversee the daily operation of the Early Head Start kitchen and ensure nutritious, appealing meals are prepared safely and served on time.
Responsibilities include:
Planning and preparing nutritious breakfasts, lunches, and snacks that meet USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines. Preparing meals appropriate for infants and toddlers, including formula preparation, purees, and modified textures. Accommodating food allergies, physician-prescribed diets, and special nutritional needs. Ordering food and kitchen supplies while managing inventory and minimizing waste. Maintaining accurate food production records, temperature logs, menus, and regulatory documentation. Ensuring compliance with USDA, CACFP, Virginia Department of Health, and agency food safety standards. Maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming kitchen. Collaborating with classroom staff to support children's nutritional needs and family-style dining experiences. We're Looking for Someone Who Enjoys preparing healthy, high-quality meals. Takes pride in organization, cleanliness, and food safety. Is dependable, self-motivated, and able to manage daily kitchen operations. Enjoys working with children and being part of a collaborative team. Believes that every child deserves healthy meals prepared with care. Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Experience in commercial, school, childcare, healthcare, or institutional food service preferred. ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification (or ability to obtain within three months of hire). Knowledge of
USDA CACFP
requirements is a plus (training provided). Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in an active kitchen environment. Successful completion of required background checks and health screening.
