Job Description

Part-Time/Hourly Opportunity The City of Richmond is seeking a passionate, experienced Senior Lifeguard to lead our aquatic team and foster a safe, fun, and welcoming environment for the community. In this key role, you will oversee lifeguard staff and uphold the highest standards of water safety through regular emergency response training and supervision. The Senior Lifeguard serves as a role model by responding to emergencies with skill, confidence, and professionalism, and will lead periodic Lifeguard Certification training sessions as the primary instructor. This position plays an essential role in ensuring efficient pool operations and promoting a positive, inclusive aquatic experience for patrons of all ages. Hourly salary for this classification is as high as $25.11. Additionally, City-paid benefits include sick leave in accordance with state law. The Senior Lifeguard performs duties and responsibilities related to the building and leading of a lifeguard team; scheduling and supervising lifeguard staff; leading team building and in-service skills training; performing lifeguard duties and other related duties as required. Monitor, direct, and evaluate lifeguard personnel. Assists with recruiting, interviewing, and scheduling lifeguard personnel. Monitor activities to prevent accidents; educate and direct swimmers regarding unsafe behavior; recognize and respond to emergencies; rescue swimmers in distress; and provide first aid care for medical emergencies, injury, and sudden illness that may include heart attack, bleeding, spinal injury, or drowning. Required Education and Experience One (1) year of college or university work in recreation, physical education, or a related field Two (2) years of lifeguard experience, or the equivalent combination of training and experience Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities Required Licenses or Certifications Current Lifeguard training certification American Red Cross Head Lifeguard certification or equivalent Current First Aid and CPR for Public Safety Personnel in accordance with Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations

REQUIRED KSA FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF JOB DUTIES
Knowledge of:
Lifeguarding, first aid, public safety and the role of the professional rescuer Rules and regulations of an aquatic facility Swimming rescue techniques, CPR and first aid Accident prevention and accident management Intervention and conflict resolution strategies Legal duty to perform Instruction techniques and materials related to aquatic activities Special issues associated with conducting activities for citizens possessing a wide variety of physical and mental abilities Team building techniques and supervision of lifeguards Methods of program evaluation and performance evaluation Health and safety regulations Current methods and standards for lifeguarding facilities Ability to: S wim with proficiency and endurance Perform and assist rescues Enforce the rules and regulations of an aquatic facility Perform CPR and first aid Work a flexible schedule including holidays, nights, and weekends Work indoors and outdoors in a variety of temperatures Use vision and hearing to identify and evaluate field emergencies, and to respond physically to these emergencies quickly and appropriately Communicate effectively in writing and verbally with personnel and the public, in both routine operations and emergency situations Develop and implement aquatic programs for a variety of skill levels Provide leadership, direction and training of lifeguard personnel
Application and Selection Process To Apply:

Qualifying Phase:
All completed applications will be evaluated based on job-related qualifications criteria, which could include desirable qualifications and the specific needs of the hiring department(s). Candidates may be screened for better qualified.
Selection Process:
The applications of those candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be submitted to the Community Services Department hiring manager for further consideration. The better-qualified candidates may be invited to continue in the selection process, which will include an interview. Applications will remain on file for six (6) months.
Background Check and Tuberculosis Testing:
Candidates will be required to complete a background check and Tuberculosis testing as a condition of employment.
