Do you love the sun, wind, and water? Are you passionate about sailing and enjoy teaching others your skills? Join the Darien YMCA Summer Camp as a Sailing Instructor and share your expertise while helping campers gain confidence, have fun, and stay safe on the water. This role is perfect for someone who wants to develop leadership and people skills while working in an active, outdoor environment. Your experience with Hobie Wave or similar sailboats will help campers learn proper sailing techniques and water safety in a supportive, engaging way. June 22, 2026•August 21, 2026
M-F:
8:30 AM•12:30 PM, 12:30 PM•3:30 PM, or Both shifts available What You'll Do Teach campers proper techniques for sailing, kayaking, and canoeing Provide skill-based instruction and water safety supervision Maintain constant awareness of participants to ensure safety at all times Offer feedback to the Aquatics Director on camper progress and program achievements Ensure all sailing/boating equipment is properly maintained and ready for use Follow all YMCA policies and procedures Qualifications US Sailing Level 1 Instructor certification or equivalent sailing experience CPR/First Aid and/or Lifeguard certification preferred Comfortable swimming in shallow and deep water and able to tread water Patient, reliable, and able to follow directions Strong interpersonal skills; able to engage with children, staff, and campers Work Environment & Physical Demands Active, outdoor environment including standing, swimming, stretching, and bending Moderate to heavy lifting and physical activity, including assisting campers in and out of boats Exposure to sun, wind, rain, heat, cold, and water conditions Why Work at the Y?
