JOB DESCRIPTION
The Department of Recreational Sports is currently looking for Lifeguards to join our energetic team and move Gators toward lifelong wellbeing! The Recreational Sports Lifeguard position is open for Campus Pools. Lifeguards will be tasked with overseeing all water-based activities and ensuring the safety of our members and guests. RecSports Team Member Responsibilities Develop professional relationships with co-workers, participants, and guests. Uphold and exceed the expectations of the
Cornerstones of RecSports Service:
accountability, anticipating needs, attitude, and atmosphere. Demonstrate a desire to learn and apply knowledge as a RecSports ambassador. Take ownership of RecSports facilities and programs by exhibiting a responsible work ethic. Promote and maintain cleanliness and appearance within and surrounding RecSports facilities. Enforce RecSports policies and procedures to promote participant safety and satisfaction. Respond to all emergency situations and adhere to established protocol including pre- and post- incident procedures. All RecSports employees are expected to abide by the RecSports Student Staff Code of Conduct process that clarifies shared expectations and standards in effort to best serve our patrons, develop each team member, and prepare student employees for future career endeavors. RecSports Fall Kick-Off 2026: Tuesday, August 18 Fall Kick-Off is our all-staff event to discuss department-wide updates, facilitate unit training sessions, as well as cultivate community and positive energy within our RecSports team. All RecSports Student Staff are expected to attend and will be paid for their training time. Fall Kick-Off is scheduled for August 18, 2026. Please mark your calendars as this is mandatory for all staff! In addition, please hold your calendars for August 12-18, 2026 for mandatory unit-specific trainings. Unit Specific Job Responsibilities Perform all necessary lifeguarding, first aid, and CPR skills as certified by American Red Cross Monitor the safety of swimmers and aquatic facility users. Prevent injuries by eliminating hazardous situations and behaviors. Monitor access to the aquatics facility to ensure only valid users and their guests are admitted. Enforce rules, regulations, and policies. Perform maintenance and cleaning, as needed. Monitor water chemistry, as needed. Attend mandatory departmental Fall training and all monthly meetings/in-services. Maintain current American Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/AED/First Aid Certification Perform all other duties as assigned by the Aquatics & Risk Management Administrative Team
EXPECTED SALARY
$14.85 per hour
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Requirements/Qualifications University of Florida student Current American Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/AED/First Aid Certification or willing to obtain by start date. Successfully complete the pre-employment water test Commit 6-10 hours/ week; (may include morning, evenings, and weekends) Additional certifications required for merit advancement. Complete and maintain UF online certifications in

This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS) and must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis, up to 20 hours per week. Federal Work Study students are encouraged to apply!
