Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Lifeguard position supports the work of the YMCA of Collier County, Inc., a leading not-for-profit organization committed to strengthening the communities in Collier County through its core focus areas of Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. Lifeguard in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that welcomes people of all skill and fitness levels. This position effectively builds community and modifies as needed to meet varied health, ability, and cultural needs. Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area. Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes related reports as required. Maintains effective relationships with the members, participants, and other staff. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code. Perform equipment checks and ensure appropriate equipment is available as needed. Check the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving. Perform chemical testing at appropriate times of the day, as required, and take appropriate action. Attends all staff meetings and training as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum age 16 years old.
Certifications:
CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid Certification Current YMCA Lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding certification. Ability to maintain certification level of physical and mental readiness. Ability to pass lifeguard water test. Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA/Red Cross standards. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Understands the YMCA is a public accommodation committed to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Must be able to meet the Association's background screening requirements.
