Lifeguard (Morning and Day shifts),
Speer Branch YMCA Description:
The Speer Branch YMCA Outdoor Aquatics Center features an 8-lane, 25-yard lap pool, a smaller warm-water teaching pool, and a splash pad. The Center serves not only YMCA members but also local middle school students. The Lifeguard is responsible for maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, on the deck, and in surrounding areas. This role helps create a safe and positive atmosphere that encourages member safety and engagement, in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
Available Schedules:
Monday-Friday, between 5AM and 4PM. 5:00 AM
  • 11:00 AM 9:00 AM
  • 2:30 PM 11:00 AM
  • 4:00
PM Duties:
Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the pool area; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency. Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service. Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner. Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code. Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed. Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving. Understand and promote all YMCA programs values.
Requirements:
Current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent preferred Minimum age of 16
Certifications:
CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Current Oxygen Administration, AED, Red Cross Lifeguard Certification and swim lesson instructor certifications a plus. Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards Pass a 10-panel drug screen Clear a Level 2 background check
