YMCA SHIFTS AVAILABLE
Monday•Thursday Evenings from 4:00 PM•7:30 PM. 10 hours per week or less can be expected in this role. Cross training in multiple roles available.
PAY RANGE
$16.00+/hour based on experience and availability

POSITION SUMMARY
Swim Lesson Instructor is responsible for conducting YMCA swim lesson and ensuring participant safety at all times.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Instruct swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly. Build effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; help them connect with each other and the YMCA. Engage parents in discussion around water safety. Maintain attendance and skill accomplishment records for each participant. Maintain teaching equipment and conduct routine checks to ensure participant safety. Organize and put away needed class equipment. Report any damaged equipment. Maintain constant visual surveillance of participants in the water. Train, supervise, and mentor new swim lesson instructors as assigned. Convey information on aquatics programs and schedules and, as appropriate, refer students and parents to other programs. Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Attend staff meetings and swim instructors in-services as scheduled. Represent the YMCA as a Leader of Aquatics Safety committed to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person. Demonstrate and support the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE RE QUIREMEN TS
Ability to read, write, perform simple mathematical functions. Must be at least 16 years of age Perform basic computer skills such as using the computerized time clock and online training requirements. Current American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer with First Aid Certification•prior to starting. Assistance will be given in obtaining certification if hired. Child Abuse Prevention Training prior to starting if hired and maintained afterwards Additional training to be completed within the first 30 days and maintained afterwards
PHYSICAL/REQUIREMENTS
While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is required to talk, hear, sit, stand, walk, crouch, stoop, crawl, use their hands and fingers to handle or feel, reach with arms and hands and lift up to ten pounds of weight. Vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision. Visual, auditory and verbal ability is required to communicate effectively with people and monitor property and activity. Must be able to swim and tread water.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
