Job Description

Our Downtown Boise YMCA is seeking a Lifeguard & Safety Coordinator to join their team! This position is responsible for the lifeguard and safety operations of the aquatic center and first responder activity in the branch. The Downtown Family YMCA opened its doors in 1964 and has since been a landmark in the Downtown Boise area. The facility has a full court basketball gym, a large cardio fitness center, multiple strength training systems and rooms, racquetball courts, a climbing wall, five fitness studios, three swimming pools, and multiple youth programming areas.
Schedule:
This is a full-time position with benefits. Schedule requirements are varied and based on needs of the pool deck. Includes evenings and weekends.
Pay:
$17.80-$22.25/hour.

Responsibilities:
Work closely with the Director to ensure department operations are consistent with approved Leading Practices. Supervise Lifeguarding staff, including hiring, onboarding, role-modeling, coaching, scheduling, certification management, and on-going development. First Responder Designation. Recruits and manages volunteers as needed per current Volunteer Policies and Guidelines. Schedule appropriate staffing levels in the aquatics facility to meet program, special event, and open swim needs. Monitor and report drill performance overall emergency response readiness of the lifeguard team. Oversee the scheduling, supplies, and budget for Lifeguarding and assigned aquatic and safety classes. Actively participates in team meetings and committees as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in recreation or sports management, or equivalent experience. Minimum six months experience in related field. Must be able to differentiate between colors (red, yellow, blue and green. Ability to swim 500 yards in 12 minutes or less. 400 yards is crawl and 100 must be breaststroke. Excellent human relations skills and an ability to maintain position communication with staff and members. Ability to address and make solid decision in emergency situations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills including telephone etiquette and computer use. Prior experience of successful supervisor of staff and volunteer preferred.
REQUIRED LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
First Aid - Prerequisite of hire or 14-day compliance period. Oxygen Cert - Prerequisite of hire or 14-day compliance period. Basic Life Support - Prerequisite of hire or 14-day compliance period. Y Lifeguard and Y Lifeguard Instructor Certification - Prerequisite of hire or 14-day compliance period.
