Job Summary:

A lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of swimmers and other individuals at the aquatic facilities by monitoring activities, enforcing safety rules, and responding to emergencies. They provide first aid, perform water rescues, and maintain a safe and clean environment. Lifeguards also assist with daily cleaning of the facility, monitoring the pool chemicals throughout the day, report hazards, educate members on best water safety practices, and deliver excellent customer service by addressing inquiries and concerns from members and guests. A lifeguard will continuously practice their lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, and AED skills by attending required monthly in-services and completing audits throughout the month. A lifeguard must also complete all required YMCA online trainings to remain an active employee, which includes annual recertification of CPR and online trainings.

Scope of Responsibilities:

Provides a high-level of customer service to members, program participants and guests at all times Supervises and guards the pool and aquatic facility and ensures participants adhere to all YMCA aquatic guidelines and procedures. Examines injured persons and administers first aid or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, if necessary, using training and medical supplies and equipment. Rescues distressed persons, using rescue techniques and equipment. Contacts emergency medical personal in case of serious injury. Actively participates in obtaining further water safety certifications. Attends all in-service trainings and staff meetings as scheduled by supervisor or center leadership team. Supports the mission and vision as assigned. Maintains job-related certifications and documents completion of certifications in the HR information system
