ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide a friendly and positive atmospere for patrons Must complete all pre-season training. Responsible for preventing injuries by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors. Actively guards and scans pool area at all times; refrains from socializing while guarding. Communicates and enforces all park and aquatic policies, rules and regulations in a personable and professional manner. Effective surveillance with proper scanning and victim recognition. Recognize and response effectively in emergencies Inspect the facility/equipment and reporting any unsafe conditions or damaged equipment to the Aquatic Manager/Supervisor on duty. Test water chemistry by checking chemical levels, as assigned Must attend and participate in regualr in-service training sessions. Complete incident reports for rescues or injuries Helps to maintain the cleanliness of the swimming pool and pool area Perform miscellaneous tasks as requested by the Aquatics and Ice Manager or Aquatics Supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY
Must be decisive in emergency situations Ability to recognize and respond to emergencies through knowledge and application of lifeguard surveillance and rescue techniques. Ability to enforce pool policies while providing a high level of customer service to guests, staff and community members. Ability to communicate effectively with guests, employees, and others of all ages and diverse backgrounds. Ability to maintain high levels of attention to safety in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated capacity to learn new tools, processes, and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to maintain surveillance while they teach, instruct, listen, and help educate participants in the education of water safety. Must be able to swim, remain alert for long periods, and perform physical rescues. They will need to be able to frequently enter and exit a pool without any assistance. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk, kneel, and stoop. The employee will use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects and reach with their hands and arms. The employee may be required to lift up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required are close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
