Job Description

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves as a representative of the City of South Bend, demonstrating a positive attitude and progressive actions though the display of professionalism, courtesy, and appropriate interactions with the other employees and guests Provide a high level of customer service to guests and program participants, including greeting and monitoring all skaters. Communicate clearly and professionally with staff and guests. Assist with the set-up and take-down of daily operations, including but not limited to, placement of firepits, stations, skate signage, skate tags, etc. Maintain a neat and clean appearance while following all uniform requirements. Ensure a clean and organized workspace by picking up trash, checking restrooms, sweeping floors, and shoveling snow, etc. Responsible for being on the ice and ensuring the participants are following all safety rules. Responsible for assisting guests throughout the check-in process, including transactions, pulling & returning skates, and season pass scanning Be physically and mentally prepared to respond to emergencies, effectively administer CPR and First Aid, and contact emergency medical personnel in cases of serious injury. Complete all required incident paperwork. Inspect the facility/equipment, reporting any unsafe conditions or damaged equipment to the Supervisor on duty or to the Aquatics and Ice Manager, including any potential hazards on the ice. Assist maintenance personnel with situations concerning ice conditions or shovel snow Attend all in-service training, staff meetings, and pre-season training as scheduled
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY
Knowledge of skating recommended Ability to learn on the job
EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS
Must be 16 years of age Requires interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and interact with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds. Must be able to work various shifts which include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Certification required. (Training will be provided to any individual not certified)
EQUIPMENT
Ice skates, skate sharpener, skate aids iPad, two-way radio, cones, First Aid kits, cold weather gear.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Tasks may involve extended periods at a keyboard or work station.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee will be exposed to various weather conditions. Must be able to stand on ice skates for up to two (2) hours at a time
SCHEDULE
Monday-Thursday 3:30pm to 7:45pm, Fridays 3:30pm to 9:45pm, Saturdays 9:30am to 9:45pm, Sundays 11:30am to 7:45pm. May include times before opening or after closing for private rentals.
